What is affordable luxury and the mid-price segment?
To be honest, the resorts in this article are a bit harder to define than for example the best cheap adults-only resorts in Punta Cana (where we simply can choose the cheapest resorts according to their pricing, combined with our experiences in those hotels) or the best luxury adults-only hotels in Punta Cana (where we have chosen the top resorts according to our experience and customers’ reviews, without too much consideration of the price).
But let’s try to fix a definition for the hotels we’re talking about in this article here, as this will target many travelers – exactly those who don’t want to spend a fortune, but who value a certain level of comfort and (affordable) luxury:
– Affordable luxury and better than the cheap resorts in Punta Cana
– Not breaking the bank by disregarding the most expensive hotels in Punta Cana
– Great customer reviews and a satisfying guest experience (during our stays and from other guests)
– Full-service resorts and stand-alone adults-only all-inclusive in Punta Cana (no adults-only sections in family resorts)
To summarize this, the following resorts are all a great combination of comfort, price and amenities, hence they’re perfect if you’re looking for a worry-free adults-only vacation in Punta Cana.
The best mid-price all-inclusive adults-only resorts in Punta Cana
Melia Punta Cana Adults Only
If there is a favorite resort among the following 5 mid-price all-inclusive adult resorts in Punta Cana, it might be Melia Punta Cana Beach Resort. The resort was completely remodeled around 6 years ago and opened with a completely new concept, refurbished rooms and wonderful common spaces and amenities.
The full name of this hotel is “Meliá Punta Cana Beach Resort Adults Only – A Wellness Inclusive Resort” which already shows the most important features: adults-only and wellness, a perfect combination for a girl’s getaway or when looking for a couple-friendly resort in Punta Cana.
Most important thing to book before your trip – what most people forget: health insurance for the Dominican Republic – get prices here*
(gets you covered in case of illness, accidents or necessary medical treatments)
The wellness experience can be seen from two different perspectives:
- First of all, the so-called 5 spaces, completely focused on wellness and well-being. Those are the silent space, the social space, the personal space, the culinary space and the sensory space. You can find more about this concept in our extensive Melia Punta Cana Adults Only review.
- Second, the wellness experiences: especially when you book a “Wellness Experience“ room, you have daily spa treatments included.
But it’s not all about wellness at this mid-price adults-only hotel. The culinary options are plentiful, especially when you book a “The Level” suite. Particularly the á-la-carte options for breakfast, lunch and dinner at Quimera restaurant (exclusively for “The Level” guests) are amazing! But also the other restaurants – if you don’t have a “The Level” room – are well worth it considering the mostly moderate prices you pay for Melia Punta Cana Adults Only. Again, book a “The Level” room as this gives you also access to the fantastic Quimera Rooftop Bar with great cocktails and fantastic views.
There is so much to do and see at this resort that it’s worth checking out our extensive review about Melia Punta Cana. The only kind of traveler I would not recommend this resort to is if you’re looking to party. Melia Punta Cana is not a party hotel, it is more on the quieter and more relaxed side. Check out Breathless Punta Cana or Riu Palace Macao below if you’re looking for more social activities and entertainment or have a look at Riu Republica among our cheap Punta Cana adults-only resorts if you’re looking for a real party resort in Punta Cana.
Pros:
– Amazing culinary options, especially as a “The Level” guest
– Gorgeous views from the rooftop bar (only for “The Level” guests)
– Some of the best tropical gardens in Punta Cana and an amazing beach location with one of the widest stretches at Bavaro Beach
Cons:
– Long distances to walk between the lobby, the beach and some of the restaurants
– Even though renovated and refurbished, the Deluxe Rooms are kind of outdated
– Limited number of à-la-carte restaurants for guests without “The Level” privileges
What makes this mid-price Punta Cana adults-only resort unique: some of the best food in its price range + perfect beach location
Tripadvisor rating (as of January 2026): 4.5/5 (check reviews*) (steady compared to January 2024)
Booking.com rating (as of January 2026): 8.3/10 (check reviews*) (increased from 7.7 in January 2024)

Serenade All Suites Resort
One of the newer adults-only resorts in Punta Cana is Serenade All Suites Resort, which opened in October 2023. It is the sister resort of neighboring Serenade Punta Cana, the latter one catering to all kinds of travelers. However, Seranade Punta Cana is more and more managed as a very family-friendly resort in Punta Cana, especially now as more couples and adults will book the new Serenade All Suites Adults Only Resort.
Serenade All Suites Resort is a stand-alone adults-only all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana that has sufficient amenities, services and restaurants to make it not necessary to head over to the family side – even though you’re allowed to do so. The resort features 2 buffets, 4 à-la-carte restaurants (reservations are required) as well as 3 pools and several bars, including a fantastic rooftop bar with an infinity pool (even though this one is shared with the VIP rooms of Serenade Punta Cana), which allows for stunning views of the surrounding areas. The resort also has its gym as well as a versatile activity and entertainment schedule, including water sports, pool activities and beach entertainment.
Serenade All Suites Resort is one of the quieter Punta Cana adults-only resorts in the mid-price segment, but one that features its fair share of luxury. Just imagine booking the regular Serenade Punta Cana but with one step up in terms of quality, service and food selection. Especially the modern rooms will convince all those who love stylish suites, as particularly the cheaper Punta Cana adult resorts mostly come with outdated rooms.
Pros:
– Fantastic rooftop bar with infinity pool and great views
– Stand-alone resort with sufficient restaurants (but additional options at Serenade Punta Cana)
– Modern and stylish rooms for a reasonable price
Cons:
– Reservations are required for à-la-carte restaurants
– The beach is usually beautiful, but there are better beaches in Punta Cana
What makes this mid-price Punta Cana adults-only resort unique: new, relaxed vibe, contemporary rooms, but still affordable
Tripadvisor rating (as of January 2026): 4.5/5 (check reviews*) (steady compared to January 2024)
Booking.com rating (as of January 2026): 7.9/10 (check reviews*) (decreased from 8.2 in January 2024)

Breathless Punta Cana
If you’re looking for a social and active all-inclusive resort without breaking the bank, but also without forgoing comfort and some slight luxury amenities, Breathless Punta Cana might be the perfect fit for you. It’s a well-established property in Uvero Alto, which is particularly famous for its entertainment schedule. While they don’t host as many crazy parties as RIU Party does, Breathless offers a lot of activities and well-balanced parties that other resorts don’t, such as the Daytime Champagne Celebration, the Black Light Neon Night, Dominican Parties, the Water Festival, Beach Events, Foam Parties and Live DJs.
When it comes to comfort and amenities, you can count on the high level that the Hyatt brand (to which Breathless Resort belongs) is promising. While Breathless isn’t a cheap adults-only all-inclusive resort, it (usually) comes at the right price point without charging exaggerated prices. With 7 restaurants, 1 buffet, 1 coffee shop, and 1 snack beachside restaurant, it offers a wide range of culinary options, complemented by several pools, swim-up rooms, premium alcohol brands and free WiFi.
My expert tip: In case Breathless Punta Cana is sold out, you can always check availability at Dreams Onyx*, as all guests (adults only) have access from Dreams Onyx to Breathless as well. This being said, even if staying at Dreams Onyx, you can enjoy the full adults-only vibe at Breathless the entire time.
Another great feature of Breathless Punta Cana is the exchange privileges with Dreams Onyx, which means you have full access to this neighboring resort with another 11 restaurants and plenty of bars as well. You also have access to the water park at Dreams Onyx, one of the biggest water parks in Punta Cana.
Pros:
– A unique combination of activities, social parties and comfort, which is otherwise hard to find in Punta Cana
– Eclectic vibe and a bit of a younger crowd compared to the average all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana
– Full access to Dreams Onyx, including the huge water park
– In combination with Dreams Onyx, access to around 20 restaurants and approx. 20 bars
Cons:
– Uvero Alto location, hence nothing in walking distance and the beach is not as spectacularly beautiful as at other beaches in Punta Cana
– Like all Hyatt properties, their popularity sometimes leads to higher prices, hence the price-value ratio is not always the best
What makes this mid-price Punta Cana adults-only resort unique: perfect combination of comfort, parties, activities and decent food
Tripadvisor rating (as of January 2026): 4.5 /5 (check reviews*)
Booking.com rating (as of January 2026): 8.5/10 (check reviews*)

Riu Palace Macao
Another adults-only resort in the mid-price range, which combines party, comfort and relaxation in the perfect way, is Riu Palace Macao. It was completely remodeled in 2023 and therefore offers, despite its age, completely modern rooms, a contemporary design as well as state-of-the-art amenities and restaurants.
When talking about RIU and RIU Palace, it is important to understand the difference between the low-budget hotels of RIU in the Dominican Republic, such as Riu Bambu and Riu República, and the more upscale resorts, which are all RIU Palace Resorts. For me, RIU Palace is a perfect example of an affordable yet comfortable mid-price all-inclusive resort. You get much more quality and better amenities compared to the cheap adults-only resorts, but I definitely would not call RIU Palace (in this example, Riu Palace Macao, as it’s the only Riu Palace that is adults only) a luxury resort. It’s a vacation-focused brand with as much comfort as necessary to have a pleasant holiday, but without any unnecessary frills or exaggerated luxury amenities, which would make their prices skyrocket.
Regarding entertainment and parties, RIU Palace Macao offers a perfect mix for those who want to relax during their vacation and join some great parties if they feel like partying. Riu is hosting the most massive resort parties in Punta Cana 4x weekly, called RIU party, but they take place at a separate venue inside the RIU property, just 5 minutes walking away from Riu Palace Macao. This being said, you can join some crazy parties if you like to, but the parties don’t interfere with the relaxation and chilled vibe at the resort. This makes RIU Palace Macao a great choice for parents traveling with their adult children as well.
You can read our full Riu Palace Macao review here.
Pros:
– Recently (2023) completely renovated, therefore offering modern rooms and state-of-the-art amenities
– Access to RIU Party 4x weekly, which are hosted at a separate venue 5 minutes walking away
– Outstanding price-value ratio for most vacation dates
– They recently introduced Elite Club rooms with additional perks and services
Cons:
– Huge resort with interchanging facilities, which are sometimes hard to understand
– Even though amenities and services are very good considering the price point, RIU Palace Macao is definitely not a luxury property
– Entertainment might be very casual
What makes this mid-price Punta Cana adults-only resort unique: the best off-site parties combined with good food and a relaxed chill out vibe at the resort – RIU Palace Macao is suitable for different kinds of travelers
Tripadvisor rating (as of January 2026): 4.0/5 (check reviews*)
Booking.com rating (as of January 2026): 8.1/10 (check reviews*)

Secrets La Romana
The last option among our mid-price adults-only all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana for affordable luxury brings us out to Bayahibe, a small fishing village that is easily accessible from Punta Cana. It is just a one-hour drive from Punta Cana Airport to Bayahibe, not much longer than to some of the resorts in the north of Punta Cana.
Bayahibe is particularly known for its crystal clear water and the more relaxed vibe compared to Punta Cana, but there aren’t that many choices among all-inclusive resorts in Bayahibe. Secrets La Romana is one of the biggest hotels in Bayahibe and features a family-side (Dreams La Romana) and an adults-only side. Both are stand-alone resorts with full amenities.
My expert tip: If you consider Secrets La Romana, book early! Due to the high demand of Bayahibe (because of the occasional seaweed in Punta Cana and due to the fact that Bayahibe nearly always is seaweed-free), the resort is – similar to many other resorts in Bayahibe – often sold out (or only the expensive rooms are left)
Secrets La Romana features five restaurants (among them 4 à-la-carte restaurants with no reservations required), five bars and lounges, two pools, waiter service at the pool and the beach, a gym and 24-hour room service. Non-motorized watersports are included, same as daily activities and nightly entertainment. You can use the extensive water park of Dreams La Romana as well as the 5 restaurants plus pizza snack bar, while families don’t have access to the adults-only side.
Secrets La Romana can be considered the best all-inclusive adults-only resort in Bayahibe and it perfectly fits within our criteria of affordable luxury and not breaking the bank. Furthermore, it is a perfect option if you’re looking for a Punta Cana adults-only resort without seaweed, as Bayahibes beaches usually are seaweed-free, even during the seaweed peak season, when Punta Cana sometimes get flooded with seaweed.
Pros:
– Best adults-only resort in Bayahibe
– Large selection of restaurants, especially if you hop over to Dreams La Romana
– Seaweed-free beach
Cons:
– Even though refurbished and renovated, the hotel is one of the older resorts in Bayahibe
– Located outside of the main area in Bayahibe, hence there is not much within walking distance
– More expensive transfer from Punta Cana Airport to Bayahibe
– Rates might not always be as affordable as before when it was still a Hilton property
What makes this mid-price Punta Cana adults-only resort unique: one of the few options in Bayahibe, which is perfect if you’re looking for an adults-only vacation in the Dominican Republic without seaweed
Tripadvisor rating (as of January 2026): 4.5/5 (check reviews*) (steady compared to January 2024)
Booking.com rating (as of January 2026): 8.9/10 (check reviews*) (increased from 8.7/10 in January 2024)

Really enjoyed the information contained in your blog
Hi Chris:
Have enjoyed reading your observations about Punta Cana and have narrowed our choices for a 10 day all-inclusive adult-only stay in March ’25 to 2 properties, Serenade & Melia. We’re in our 70’s and still pretty active but are just looking for a relaxing getaway with clean, comfortable surroundings, good quality food, an expansive walking beach & friendly service. Could you maybe give us some of your expertise to help us decide between the two? Much appreciated!
Mike Granville
Moncton, N.B. Canada
Hi Michael,
both of the properties you have chosen are pretty suitable for the preferences you have described.
The main difference between both is the beach, which is better and offers better walking options at Melia.
If you can afford a The Level room, you will also have much better food at Melia compared to Serenade.
Here is our review of Melia in case you haven’t seen it yet: https://www.puntacanatravelblog.com/accommodation-resorts/melia-punta-cana-beach-resort-all-inclusive/
I hope this helps.
Best regards
Chris
