There is an important difference in resorts for couples most people are not 100% aware of:
– couples-only resorts in Punta Cana
AND
– all-inclusive resorts for couples in Punta Cana.
While you can book couples-only resorts exclusively for two people (and in some instances only for two people of a different gender), suitable all-inclusive resorts for couples are usually adults-only resorts that receive singles, couples, groups and parties of friends.
To do this difference justice, we have divided this article exactly into these two sections: all-inclusive hotels “couples only” in Punta Cana and the best Punta Cana resorts for couples. Unfortunately, the only couples-only resort in Punta Cana and the entire Dominican Republic, Desire Miches, closed in January 2024, hence the second section is much longer than the first one. As we have visited most of those resorts independently, we’re happy to share our experiences, suggestions and insider tips with you.
Temptation Grand Miches Resort
Temptation Grand Miches Resort is (or was) indeed the only couples-only resort in Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic. Strictly spoken it is not even located in Punta Cana, but as the closest international airport is Punta Cana and you can reach it with a quick airport transfer in around 80 minutes + it is still the same coastline as Punta Canas’ beaches, it still can be considered as an all-inclusive resort in the broader sense.
Unfortunately, the only couples-only resort in Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic, Temptation Grand Miches, closed for good in January 2024. Shortly before its closure, it was rebranded to Desire Miches.
Therefore, when looking for suitable resorts for couples in Punta Cana, you only have the choice between the couples-friendly resorts listed below. Particularly Zoetry Agua Punta Cana and Secrets Cap Cana described below are super recommendable if budget is not too much of an issue.
If a resort where only couples are allowed is a must, you have to look outside of the Dominican Republic, as there is currently no hotel of this kind in the country.

Temptation Grand Miches Resort was not only a resort for couples only in Punta Cana, it also was an adults-only resort exclusively for visitors of at least 21 years and older. Furthermore, it is one of the newest resorts in and around Punta Cana as it was only opened in 2023.
But that’s not everything that makes Temptation Grand Miches Resort unique. It is, together with its sister hotel and neighbor Temptation Miches Resort, the first resort in Miches. It also offers topless-optional areas and even has some au naturel spaces, such as the Jacuzzi and the Playroom. This being said, Temptation Grand Miches Resort is a lifestyle-friendly couples-only resort in Punta Cana, even though you can also visit here without a problem if you’re not into this kind of thing or simply want to enjoy the resort without any second thoughts. After all, you also have access to neighboring Temptation Miches Punta Cana, which is one of the best party resorts in Punta Cana and which “only” has a topless-optional pool, no au naturel areas.
It is hard to explain the quintessence of Temptation Miches Resorts in the Dominican Republic as there are so many special features and new concepts that you can’t find anywhere else in Punta Canas’ hotels, making Temptation Grand Miches a unique couples-only resort in Punta Cana. Besides the topless-optional areas, there are always fun and crazy games going on at Temptation Miches and you can have dinner at SHE, a new dining experience where a set 4-course meal is accompanied by sensual dancing performances from a professional group.
Besides this, Temptation Grand Miches Restaurant comes with 4 restaurants, among them two à-la-carte restaurants and 4 bars. However, you can use the additional 6 restaurants of neighboring Temptation Miches Resort as well. Together with Zoetry Agua, featured further below among the best all-inclusive resorts for couples, it is one of the smallest resorts in Punta Cana, as it only features 114 rooms. Those rooms are elegantly designed and have all the state-of-the-art amenities, as Temptation Grand Miches Resort was only opened in 2023.

Zoetry Agua is perfect if you want to relax – but might either not be every couple’s price tag or a bit too quiet. Entertainment at Zoetry Agua is limited compared to other resorts, even though you have different activities throughout the day and live music nearly every evening.
If this sounds a little bit too relaxed for you but you are still looking for an oasis of peace and relaxation, you can try out Melia Punta Cana Beach Resort, which is much bigger. There are plenty of activities for couples, such as a mud cleanse course, a painting workshop, a reflexology activity, Flow Yoga, a healthy cooking workshop or the 7 Chakras workshop. In general, Melía Punta Cana has put a lot of effort into creating activities that are different from the typical resort entertainment.
The full name of this couples-friendly resort in Punta Cana is “Meliá Punta Cana Beach Resort Adults Only – A Wellness Inclusive Resort” – this gives you an idea of what to expect here. Indeed wellness is a focal point at this all-inclusive hotel as some rooms (all those marked with “Stay Well”, for example, the “The Level Suite Beachside by Stay Well”) have daily spa treatments, including (couples) massages, facials or beauty arrangements. Another difference between Melía Punta Cana Beach Resort compared to Zoetry is that it is a particularly large resort – not necessarily in terms of the rooms but more about the size of the property. Even though we have included Bahía Principe Aquamarine in our list of the best party resorts in Punta Cana, it is more of a low-key party hotel compared to other resorts such as Riu Republica or breathless Punta Cana. This being said, you find a wide array of social activities, daily entertainment, nightly shows and occasional pool and foam parties, but there is also more than sufficient space to relax and unwind from your stress at home. You will find a lot of other like-minded couples here at Bahía Principe Grand Aquamarine.
Bahía Principe Aquamarine is part of the large Bahía Principe Punta Cana complex which counts a total of 7 resorts and more than 3000 rooms. Even though this sounds massive (which indeed it is), all amenities are located within the Aquamarine hotel site, hence you can reach everything by walking in approx. 3-4 minutes walk. The gorgeous Arena Gorda beach is approx. 6-7 minutes walking away – alternatively you can take the Trolley Train which covers the entire Bahía Principe property.
Restaurants are located both at the beach (for lunch) as well as at Bahía Principe Aquamarine (for breakfast, lunch and dinner).
The quality of Bahía Principe Grand Aquamarine is better than at neighboring Bahía Principe Bavaro and Bahía Principe Punta Cana, but not as good as at family resort Luxury Bahía Principe Esmeralda and adults-only resort Luxury Bahía Principe Ambar, which would also be a great option for a couple if your budget is a bit higher.
