Best Airbnbs at the beach in Santo Domingo

 Even Santo Domingo is located at the ocean, it doesn’t have a single beach where you can swim or go into the ocean. It also doesn’t have any beach to sunbathe, relax, have a drink or do other pleasant activities you usually enjoy, such as at the beaches of Punta Cana. The only beaches located right in Santo Domingo are dirty and loaded with a crazy amount of garbage. 

 However, there are two beach towns very close to Santo Domingo where life looks much more “beachy”: Boca Chica and Juan Dolio. Both are extremely popular among the inhabitants of the city which is why they can get crowded at the weekend. However, during the week, you can find some gorgeous and quiet beaches here, combined with plenty of restaurants and marvelous views – and Airbnbs in both villages. While Boca Chica sometimes has a little shady image, it can blow your mind away with its turquoise lagoon and crystal clear water. On the other side, Juan Dolio is much more laid back and has a wonderful and long stretch of beach, even it is flanked by some high-rise condominium buildings. Boca Chica is around 35 minutes away from Santo Domingo, Juan Dolio approx. 45 minutes.

 If it happens that you arrive in Santo Domingo late in the evening and leave pretty early the next day, you just need a place to crash for one night. The following are the best Airbnbs in strategic positions, such as the Las Américas International Airport or the bus station from Caribe Tours with connections to the entire Dominican Republic.

Airbnb close to Santo Domingo Airport (Las Américas International Airport)

 If you have an evening arrival or morning departure at the International Airport of Santo Domingo, an option close to the airport comes in handy to spend as little money and time as possible on transport between the premises. Unfortunately, there is no hotel right at the airport, which means it doesn’t matter what you choose, you have to get on a taxi or a shuttle. If the price is not that important, the Hampton Inn by Hilton* is the best (and only) airport hotel (and is offering an airport shuttle), but it usually is priced at more than 100 USD per night (check the current prices here*). If you are traveling on a budget, an Airbnb for a considerably lower price might come in handy, even you have to check the surroundings (area, check-in, how to get there, etc.) to guarantee a smooth layover.

Spacious apartment closest to the Samaná bus station

 Often the question is raised which is the best way to get from the airport in Santo Domingo to Las Terrenas respectively Las Galeras by public transport. While you can read the detailed answer here at my Santo Domingo Airport Transfer guide, part of it is getting an express bus from the Samaná turnoff to Las Terrenas or Las Galeras. In case your flight arrives too late for the last bus, you might need overnight accommodation close to the bus station. While you can go with the Hampton Inn Airport Hotel* or the Airport Airbnb mentioned above, there is a spacious, but simple Airbnb just 800 meters away from where you catch the bus to Las Terrenas and Las Galeras. It’s certainly nothing to write home about, but it does its job concerning the location. You can even occupy it with up to 6 persons in case you are traveling in a small group or as a family. Just note that the surrounding is not the Champs-Elysee from Santo Domingo, so if you expect glamour and shine, better go with the Hampton Inn.
