Royalton Chic Punta Cana is a pretty unique adults-only resort in Punta Cana, which focuses on elegant parties, gourmet food and various activities. It is located in the Uvero Alto area, is part of the Marriott brand and charges mid-range to premium prices, depending on the occupancy and season. But what can you expect when visiting Chic Resort Punta Cana? Is it worth the money? Is Chic by Royalton even a party resort? Where is Royalton Chic Punta Cana?

Royalton Chic Punta Cana is located in Uvero Alto, so far the northernmost part of the hotel area in Punta Cana. Apart from Ocean El Faro, which is a bit less than a mile further south, Royalton Chic Punta Cana Resort & Spa is the southernmost hotel in the Uvero Alto area. Nickelodeon Resort is bordering to the North.

Like all Punta Cana all-inclusive resorts, Chic Punta Cana is located right at the beach. The distance from the airport is around 25 miles, which usually requires a 35-minute drive. Before arriving at Punta Canas’ International Airport, it is recommendable to prebook your private airport transfer* or shared airport transfer*. While the latter one is perfect when traveling to Punta Cana on a budget and alone, a private transfer from Punta Cana Airport is the best option for couples and all other groups of travelers with at least two persons.

When leaving Royalton Chic Punta Cana walking, there is not much around to explore, as Uvero Alto mainly consists of resorts. However, there is a small shopping plaza at a distance of around 0.7 miles, which mainly caters to tourists and resort workers and can be reached in around 15 minutes of walking from the main entrance of Chic by Royalton.

Definition of Royalton Chic Punta Cana

Royalton Chic Punta Cana has completed two rebrandings in the past years. While it has been Chic Punta Cana for a long time, it was later rebranded to Chic by Royalton Punta Cana. Since 2019/2020, it is now called Royalton CHIC Punta Cana, hence it was attached closer to the Royalton brand. The full name actually is “Royalton CHIC Punta Cana, an Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort & Casino – Adults Only”, because it is also part of the Marriott brand Autograph Collection.

Due to these rebrandings, there are existing different versions when it comes to the name of the hotel. This is also why you will find the following variations here at the Royalton Chic Punta Cana review and on other pages on the internet:

Overview of Royalton Chic Punta Cana

Royalton Chic Punta Cana is a very compact all-inclusive resort, which is one of the smallest hotels in Punta Cana. From the lobby to the beach it is just a mere 2-minute walk, the distance is around 420 feet. The furthest room is located less than 1000 feet away from the beach.

Therefore, compared to other resort reviews here at Punta Cana Travel Blog, where this “overview section” is always set up like a resort tour around the entire property, this will be pretty short here for Royalton Chic Punta Cana Resort & Spa.

When heading from the main entrance to the lobby, you are going to pass a couple of accommodation buildings, the spa and the gym. Furthermore, you’ll have the Royalton Chic Mansion Villa* here, which is an exclusive and luxurious 6-bedroom villa, which you can rent separately, including an all-inclusive meal plan.

The lobby, which is located in the middle of the resort, can be considered as the epicenter of Chic by Royalton, as you’ll find most of the amenities here, among them several shops, the main lobby bar, the sports bar, the disco and the tour desk.

When walking from the lobby towards the beach, you have the coffee shop, the Ceviche/Asian restaurant and the snack restaurant on the left side, while you have a couple of restaurants and bars on the right side.

You also have the unique mermaid pool here – a pool that is located on the second floor and is glazed on the side, so you can look into it from outside. The pool is exclusive for Royalton Chic Punta Cana Diamond Club members and room categories.

Further below, before reaching the beach, you have the two main pools (one of them with a swim-up bar), several pool cabanas (for an extra charge) and the buffet restaurant, which has a stunning pool- and oceanfront location.

Around the pool, you can rent plenty of individual poolside cabanas or Bali beds for an extra charge. Especially the cabanas with waiter service, USB connections, private pool and bottle service are pretty popular and are fully rented nearly every day. For reservations, contact your butler or the concierge for availability and prices (usually starting from 120 USD per cabana including one bottle of premium alcohol).

This is it already – as you can see, Royalton Chic is a very small resort in Punta Cana, which gives it a very intimate feeling. You don’t have to walk a lot and will know most of the staff members after a couple of days. Still, you have plenty of choices when it comes to restaurants or activities.

Please note that Royalton Chic Punta Cana is not a tropical resort, lush gardens are pretty rare on the property. While in the back of the hotel you’ll find a lot of lawn, the main area (where the pool is located and the daytime activities are taking place), is dominated by concrete.

The beach at Royalton Chic Punta Cana

As with all beaches in Punta Cana, also the one in Uvero Alto is pretty beautiful with lots of golden sand, palm trees and plenty of space to head for some beach walks. Especially if walking north, you can continue for 4.5 miles before the beach is ending at the mouth of a river.

Still, the beach at Chic by Royalton Resorts Punta Cana is one of the smaller ones, which isn’t a problem as most guests are lounging by the pool anyway. You have comfortable beach chairs with huts and (usually) can enjoy a constant ocean breeze.

Just note that there is no sargassum fence in the ocean in front of Royalton Chic Punta Cana. This means that it is pretty prone to seaweed during the seaweed season in Punta Cana, particularly during summer. However, the hotel tries to clean the beach as often as possible, hence you won’t have a problem heading to the ocean to enjoy the warm waters or for a swim.

The rooms at Royalton Chic Punta Cana

Also with regard to the rooms, Royalton Chic Punta Cana is one of the smaller resorts in Punta Cana. It only features 320 suites and therefore is pretty intimate – which is important considering Chic’s energetic and lively vibe. This is also transported into the rooms, which are dominated by a vibrant design with some decent neon colors as well as unique artwork. While the rooms are not super new, you can see that Chic by Royalton was only opened in 2014. The suites are modern with a contemporary design, particularly the several lights in different forms and colors are stimulating an appealing overall impression. Some of the design elements, such as the bar stools, the artwork, the mirrors or the floor illumination coming from the bed give you the welcoming feeling that it is not an ordinary resort you are visiting right now.

The bathroom is separated into three areas: the main area with a sink, a toilet and the shower. If there is something I have to criticize in the room it is that the flush is extremely loud (in fact, you shouldn’t use it at night because your travel companion will for sure wake up) and that the air-conditioning is not super strong as in other all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana. Still, it gets cold, so don’t worry about this.

The room we had was a regular Luxury Suite. Those are mostly located in the back of the resort. Most of the Diamond Club rooms are located pretty close to the pools and the ocean, even though there is no guarantee for a specific location. If you’re booking a swim-out room, please note that they are all directed towards the main pool or the beach, hence it might be a bit louder during the day. On the other hand, this gives you the opportunity to watch the happenings, including the CHIC pool parties, easily from your pool and your terrace.

All of the rooms are equipped with 1 king bed or 2 queen beds (in the case of 1 king bed you usually find a sofa sleeper in the room as well), USB charging ports, an in-room electronic safe, satellite TV, minibar, an 24/7 room service, balcony/terrace, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, air-condition and fan, among others.

One thing to note: the regular Luxury Suites are not perfect for people over 6ft and 3 inches (1,90 meters). I am 6ft 5in and was constantly hitting my head on a pretty low connecting component between the bathroom and the separated toilet.

The room design and physical amenities of the Royalton Chic Punta Cana Diamond Club rooms are pretty similar to those rooms without Diamond Club status, but you enjoy a couple of extra services related to the room. Considering we are talking about a premium all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, those are pretty decent prices. When compared to recently reviewed Catalonia Punta Cana or Dreams Dominicus, which are offering similar prices despite not offering the same quality (even though Dreams Dominicus is very close to Royalton Chic Punta Cana in terms of amenities and services), particularly during the high season, this is definitely a very attractive price-value ratio.

If you want to book a Diamond Club room at Royalton Chic Punta Cana Resort & Spa, you need to check the current price difference as they might differ widely. As of the time of writing this Royalton Chic Punta Cana review, Diamond Club is at least 75-90 USD per person per night more expensive than the regular room categories, which is pretty steep. However, I know that this is just a snapshot. With periodic promotions, you might score a much cheaper deal hence it is worth checking the current prices.

To give you an idea of where it is best to book Royalton Chic Hotel Punta Cana, we have also done an extensive price comparison between different websites. To find some of the best prices, we have assumed three different scenarios:

It pays off to compare different platforms, but it is also worth to skip some of the cheapest offers if you don’t know and/or trust the company. If booking directly with the hotel or with renowned platforms like Booking or Expedia or leading tour operators like Apple Vacations, Sunwing Vacations or Virgin Holidays, you are usually making a good decision.

As you can see, the best prices usually can be found with Expedia*, Tripadvisor*, Hotelscombined* and the Marriott website*.

There are a few things to be noted here when checking the prices of Royalton Chic Punta Cana for your all-inclusive vacation.

In general, try to log in at your favorite booking website to see the best prices for Chic by Royalton, as most of the time, the member prices are 10% cheaper than the regular prices. Usually, registration is free and you can see those cheaper prices immediately after logging in or registering. Member prices are available for Booking. com, Expedia, Trip. com and the Marriott website, among other options.

In 2 of 3 scenarios, we were able to find the cheapest prices for Royalton Chic Punta Cana at Hotelscombined. However, usually Hotelscombined* include some pretty unknown booking agencies. It is up to you if you want to save a few bucks and take the risk. If you exclude those newish booking websites, the Hotelscombined results are on par with some of the other online travel agencies.

Tripadvisor* is also a great way to check prices for Chic by Royalton Punta Cana as they compare different websites, including the resort’s homepage. Usually, Tripadvisor was able to find the best price, even though you have to make sure to click on the right result to get forwarded to the booking website with the best deals. In our scenarios, the winning result was the one of the Autograph Collection.

You can also book directly through Royalton Chic. However, if you do so, it is recommended to book through the Marriott website* and not through the resort website, as Marriott offers much better rates than the Royalton Chic Hotel directly. Royalton Chic Punta Cana is an Autograph Collection All-Inclusive Resort and therefore also part of Marriott Resorts, which is why you can book Chic Adults Only through the Marriott website.

Last but not least, if you simply want to get competitive rates without taking care of too many things, you can simply book through Expedia*. While usually not having the ultra-lowest rates, they usually have a well-negotiated rate, especially when registering for free for their member’s program.

Restaurants and bars at Royalton Chic Punta Cana

Royalton Chic Punta Cana All Inclusive Resort is definitely a good spot for foodies and connoisseurs. While in the majority of Punta Canas’ all-inclusive resorts, you shouldn’t expect a high-class gourmet experience like in the best restaurants of the world, the food and drink quality at Chic Resort Punta Cana definitely outperforms most other hotels in the same price range. Particularly the specialty restaurants and the buffet are focusing on well-elaborated food with a lot of healthy options and unique creations.

In total, you have 9 dining and snack options at Royalton Chic Punta Cana, among them 4 à-la-carte restaurants. The following restaurants are available:

• a buffet restaurant (for breakfast, lunch and dinner)
• a steakhouse à-la-carte restaurant (for dinner)
• an Indian à-la-carte restaurant (for dinner)
• an Italian à-la-carte restaurant (for dinner)
• a Ceviche/Sushi á-la-carte restaurant (for dinner)
• a coffee shop with ice cream and pastries (during the day)
• a poolside snack restaurant (during the day)
• the sports bar with a snack menu (from the afternoon until late at night)
• a special culinarian experience for dinner/chefs table (for dinner, extra surcharge)

Á-la-carte restaurants at CHIC Resort Punta Cana are available without reservation, hence you can go dining whenever and wherever you want.

Let’s have a look at the buffet first, which is different than at most all-inclusive resorts and does have a unique design and appearance. It is shaped like a long half-moon-style tunnel with a pretty upscale selection of food. The buffet is named “elements – gourmet buffet” – and the name says it all. Salmon, octopus, freshly grilled meats, delicious cheese, plenty of exquisite salads, plenty of seeds, almonds, grapes and much more. It is a true pleasure strolling through Royalton Chic Punta Cana’s buffet and definitely different than in other resorts in Punta Cana, particularly compared to those 6-7 all-inclusive resorts we have visited in the same month of visiting Chic Resort Punta Cana.

Another advantage of the buffet is the very appealing outdoor seating area. Pool view, ocean view, chillout music – everything you need for a decent meal in a chillout atmosphere. The buffet restaurant is also pretty small hence it doesn’t appear like one of those huge all-inclusive buffets with thousands of people.

Btw, the buffet also had a fresh juice mixing station. The pretty cool thing here was that you could not only use the juices proposed by the bar with exclusively fresh fruits, but you could also bring your own ingredients from the buffet and blend them into a smoothie. Therefore, you can make your own protein juices, green smoothies or whatever combination you like.

The only thing I didn’t like at the buffet was the bread. Even though they had a large selection of bread, none of them was appealing or crunchy – nothing compared to the oven-baked and fresh bread we had every day recently at Catalonia Punta Cana (even though otherwise Catalonia Punta Cana can’t compete with Royalton Chic).

The à-la-carte restaurants also convinced us – not completely, but for the majority. The Indian restaurant was one of the best Indian meals we had in the entire Punta Cana. No wonder it was that excellent, Chic by Royalton has an Indian chef here. It was so incredibly delicious that even after a lot of appetizers and main dishes we repeated one dish again to soak up more of those traditional Indian flavors.

In general, the à-la-carte menus at Royalton Chic Punta Cana have been very extensive. While in other à-la-carte restaurants of all-inclusive hotels in Punta Cana you sometimes have only 3 appetizers and 5 main dishes, the Royalton Chic restaurant menus usually feature at least 6-7 appetizers and up to 10 (or more) main dishes.

This was also valid for the Italian restaurant, where we also had a fantastic meal. It wasn’t that unique like at the Indian restaurant, particularly as our taste buds are more used to Italian flavors than Indian flavors, but everything was top-notch.

The only à-la carte restaurant at Chic by Royalton Luxury Resorts which couldn’t compete with this excellent level was the Pescari restaurant, which is a sushi, ceviche and seafood restaurant. While I loved the menu and the taste was also satisfying, the presentation and service here were a bit weird and sometimes chaotic. Still, the sushi menu is great, especially if you want to try different items as they only put very small portions on the plate here.

Drink-wise Royalton Chic Punta Cana also can keep up the high level. I mean, just look at this bar! 🙂

But it is not only the (premium) brands of alcohol that sets Chic Resort Punta Cana apart from other hotels in Punta Cana, it is also the quality of drinks you get. Already at the lobby bar or the pool bar, you can find a lot of fine cocktail ingredients which are usually lacking at other resorts, such as spices, herbs or special aromas.

However, the true hidden gem here is the Taboo Bar, which is open at night and located next to the Indian restaurant. Here we had the pleasure to get to know a barkeeper who was a true professional. He was not quickly mixing any drinks like at most standardized bars, he was truly celebrating every cocktail and applying all the rules of mixology. The preparation of a cocktail here lasted at least 5-10 minutes or even more, but the result was one of the best drinks you can get at all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana. This was a truly personalized service and you felt far away from the streamlined processes of most all-inclusive bars.

Another cool “bar” was the mobile gin & tonic bar which was set up on some evenings and is “rolling” through the resort. Here you can see as well that they not only mix your gin & tonic with those two ingredients, but they also add – according to your liking – rosemary, cucumber, cinnamon, angostura, lime and much more.

Another proof where you can see and feel the attention to detail at Royalton Chic Punta Cana is the coffee shop. It is not only a simple coffee shop where you can get pastries and a coffee, it is a lovely place to sit and relax, where you also can get ice cream, flavored water and cookies as well as decorations and sirups for your coffee.

Entertainment and service at Royalton Chic Punta Cana

This special drinks from Taboo bar definitely made our evenings at Royalton Chic Punta Cana so special. But that’s not all you can experience while staying at Chic Resort Punta Cana.

Therefore, let’s directly continue with the entertainment at Royalton Chic Punta Cana, which is pretty diverse – even though it is definitely not a party hotel in Punta Cana. Royalton Chic Punta Cana Resort & Spa is known to be a pretty social resort, which definitely is true – but you don’t have as many parties as for example at other adults-only resorts in Punta Cana, for example, RIU República, RIU Palace Macao or breathless Punta Cana. But, this isn’t a problem at all (as long as you’re not looking for a full-party resort) as you have plenty of activities at Chic Punta Cana. Particularly the evening shows are more individual than in other hotels in Punta Cana. You can also feel the more personal and intimate atmosphere here. They normally don’t have those typical shows, they are focusing more on music, interactive shows and some light parties.

Btw, if the evening entertainment is not enough, there is a sports bar and disco from 11pm.

Also during the day, there are lots of things to do at Chic Punta Cana, such as snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, bodyboarding, catamaran sailing or tennis.

One of the features most visitors are looking forward to are the pool parties at Royalton Chic Punta Cana. They are taking place various times a week with different intensities. While there was a pool party with a tropical theme on Thursday with a pretty low attendance (because the hotel occupancy was pretty low), Saturday’s main pool and foam party was definitely more crowded and with more spectacle. The majority of the hotel attended, everyone was ready to party, the entertainment staff did their best and the foam and floaties changed the pool from a quiet area to a party scene.

The CHIC pool parties are definitely among the better and more animated ones in Punta Cana, even though they can’t compare with the massive pool parties at the RIU party venue.

The service at Royalton Chic Punta Cana was particularly amazing. Always evaluating service standards in Punta Canas hotels, the attentiveness and professionalism were one of the best in all the all-inclusive resorts we visited in 2022.

The only two things which didn’t work well in terms of service were our visit to Pescari restaurant (the service was absolutely friendly and obliging, but a bit unorganized) and the room cleaning before arrival, as they apparently forgot to change the bathroom bin where a pack of cigarettes including ash was deposited.

Another thing we particularly noted was the welcome drink. While you usually get a glass of uninspiring bubbly and sometimes colorful champagne, the welcome drink here at Royalton Chic was the first welcome drink ever in all of my over 30 resort visits in Punta Cana, which was well presented, beautifully elaborated and absolutely delicious.

In case WiFi is important for you, this was working perfectly fine at Royalton Chic Punta Cana.

As you can see, there are many extra services when booking a Royalton Chic Punta Cana Diamond Club room. Obviously, if you like to order room service a lot of times, wish to have a personal contact through the butler service and enjoy the peacefulness of the Diamond Club lounge, the Royalton Chic Punta Cana Diamond Club upgrade might be worth it. However, you should check the price and see how much additional are the Diamond Club rooms compared to the regular rooms.

Furthermore, if you’d love to have a swim-out room or an ocean view room at Chic Resort Punta Cana, you basically get the Diamond Club room automatically as all of those categories are Diamond Club Rooms.

In total, there are 4 Royalton Resorts in Punta Cana:

You also have the Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana and the Hideaway at Royalton Bavaro, but both are part of the accordant mother resort and are usually not counted as stand-alone hotels in Punta Cana.

Furthermore, Royalton Chic is part of Marriott Hotels, which means you can collect Bonvoy points and use your membership level in case you are a Bonvoy member. Besides the 4 Royalton Resorts in Punta Cana mentioned, there are 3 more Marriott Hotels in Punta Cana:

• The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club
• Four Points by Sheraton Puntacana Village
• AC Hotel by Marriott Punta Cana
