Nice hotel. Pools are great. Very quiet. Could use a few more activities. There is a food truck and snack bar which are really good. The Mexican and Italian restaurants were not good, and the buffet is not very good either. The staff don't speak alot of english, which is ok.

Ignore the negative reviews! The resort was bought out in November and they are working hard to renovate and bring it up to date. We had a fabulous time! The staff was very friendly and worked hard to accommodate. The salt water infinity pools were terrific. We enjoyed watching the catamarans and boats come and go from the island. The entertainment was amazing. Raquel, Alexander and all the others were really great and got people involved in dancing! The drinks were really good…Robert was fun! The food truck and snack bar were great! We enjoyed the variety of the buffet…however, the hot food wasn’t always hot. Daniel was an excellent waiter! We visited Dominicus and Bayahibe which were only 20 minutes from the resort. Both are worth the walk.

This spanish owned smaller resort was awesome....clean, staff worked very hard please, and the ocean front location was incredible. The food in the buffet and restaurants was great, at least for me. There was fresh fish almost every meal (which was so good) as well as pork, chicken, beef. There was also an exceptional variety of fresh vegetables that were grilled or baked spanish style. Most importantly, no fried foods were served except at the beach snack bars (fries, wings, burgers). Also, desserts were so yummy but not sweet....dark chocolate, cinnamin and vanilla were featured instead of sugar. The late afternoon entertainment at 530 pm (during sunse t) was amazing....sax, violin players....so talented. The evening entertainment started at 930 pm, a bit late for us, but was really good (Spanish vocalist, MJ dancers). The ocean was also much calmer than in Punta Cana, which made snorkeling possible. Although it is not on a beach, the platform access to the swimming area with clear water was beautiful and could see the ocean bottom at 15 feet. A few things we thought could improve: 1) acces to coffee (no maker in the room and no hot coffee until buffet opened at 730 - the coffee carafe left outside the buffet was a not hot), 2) play more DR music by the active side of the beach ( there was some spanish music on the beach, but also a lot of older north American music) and 3) children were allowed in a supposed adults only resort (kids about 8-10 years in resort on day passes). Overall, this is a nice resort that more laid back couples would truly enjoy, us included.

After reading a lot of reviews before our holiday I was not sure about this hotel. But after first few days we absolutely didn't understand the bad comments from some people. Especially about food. We are both chefs and are quite picky about what we eat. The buffet had really a lot of choices of different dishes. Plus at every breakfast lunch and dinner chefs were doing specials in front of us. So really everyone is able to choose their favourites. Food was maybe not the hottest but in a buffet noone can be too suprised. It was just delicious. And amazing young waiter Juan was always making sure we have something to drink. Plus they have another 2 restaurants near pool when u need to book in advance. One Italian and one Mexican. You don't pay anything extra here. There is also sushi restaurant but every Thursday (I think) is sushi served for free alsa in a buffet. If u get hungry during the day, there's always some salad at the snack bar or a food truck when u can get burgers, nachos, wings and other things. All staff from all departments were very kind and friendly and we never saw anyone annoyed or not smiling. So when you're there, tip them, they really deserve it. When we had an issue in a room with lots of mosquitos, reception send someone to spray the room and everything was OK again. Also brilliant transport every 30 minutes to the beach which is absolutely amazing. After 2 days we started walking there and it takes only about 10-15 minutes so it makes it up for no beach at the hotel. We can highly recommend excursions from hotel. (Guy sitting next reception) La hacienda is absolutely amazing and you have 7 experiences for the price of 1. We really enjoyed. And if u will desire to try diving, try with guys who are next the main pool. SeaKlub. Vincenzo is amazing instructor and really nice guy, patient to explain everything and much more just to make you feel good about it. Itwas our first diving and we absolutely enjoyed. We even booked again for next day. Evening entertainment also brilliant, especially acrobats, fire show and Michael Jackson shows are the best. Beautiful snorkeling at the hotel. Really good spot. We saw sea turtle, lots of ray fish and hundrets of other fish. We were snorkeling almost every afternoon after coming back from beach. The rooms were not the most luxurious one but we booked simple double room. We got a room with great view to the gardens. The shower sealing was probably a bit used as the water was coming out of it a bit while showering but we didn't see that as a big issue. We always spent time in the room just when we went to sleep so didn't need anything extra. Housekeeping coming to clean every day if u don't put the sign on your door. I could just keep going as everything was the way what we hoped for. Even better I'm rating this hotel 10 and if we don't move to DR until next year we will definitely come again. Thank you so much for amazing holidays.

If you’re looking for a beautiful place to relax and have fun, this is it! Please don’t listen to the negative reviews. If you want a 5-star resort, pay for a 5-star resort. This is a great 4-star. The animation team are the BEST, especially Smith! They’re all so friendly and fun, and there’s so much to do: yoga, aqua gym, games, shows, workshops and dancing. The food is fine - there’s a range of salads, specials, local dishes and western food. It may not always be hot but we ate well every day. The drinks are flowing - so many tasty cocktails! Our room was fine - one of the older ones but we weren’t in there much. The safe and aircon worked and cleaning was good. The pools are lovely and clean too! Thank you HM Alma - we hope to come back!

Don’t go, save your money. We got to our room, it was renovated beach front. The telephone didn’t work, safe didn’t work, tv didn’t work, no blow dryer, no coffee maker, and could only get coffee after 7:30am, needed to go back down to lobby to pay for the safe… We arrived late and the buffet was closed and the snack bar wouldn’t serve us. We then asked a staff member to see if we could get something to eat, went back down to snack bar and still were not served. First morning, found out we had to put a deposit for the towels. We seen staff drinking alcohol, asking hotel guests to get them food, staff puking from to much alcohol. Crazy!! Had to pay for the sushi restaurant. Didn’t go! Went to Italian, ordered calzone, got a pizza pop. International, we were served under cooked fish and the meat was terrible…. I did though have a great massage. The food was cold in buffet everyday, complained everyday, finally talked to an English speaking staff and told her our concerns, we took her up to buffet to try the food, she put some of the food choices on her plate and tried them, she could eat it either, said it was cold! Like really, staff need to be on top of this as this is what makes people sick. When we went to get a drink at the bar, staff were always served first. We sure saved our tipping cash on this trip. Just don’t go!

We were here in December and were so impressed that we went back for 2 weeks in January. First I must say how impressed we were with the staff and management. They went above and beyond in dealing with guests. We had 12 people in our group and we all had an amazing time. Food at the buffet, food truck and ala carte was all excellent and plentiful. The bartenders, Freddy, Violetta and Leo were all hilarious. Drinks were mixed properly and a wide variety. The Resort is under new management and improvements are noticeable every day. Scuba diving is available and there are 4 pools for your use. Our room was quite large, 2 king size beds. We truly had a fantastic time and will 100% return.

This hotel has recently been sold to the HM chain. It was previously known as the Wahala Bayahibe (pronounced bai a hee bay) and this is the one to choose on the drop down menu for the entry visa forms. It is structurally very tired in places, especially the rooms in Block one. No kettles in rooms but there is a mini fridge. However, the staff are wonderful, cheerful and helpful if somewhat erratic. Reception gave one answer in the morning and a different one on a change of staff. We never knew what towels or not we would get, and one memorable day we didn’t get a sheet. A phone call produced one but the maid didn’t offer to make the bed with it! We had read much about the food. It was honestly not as bad as we expected. There was a wide choice every meal, and mostly very tasty. It was unfortunately not hot but there was always a cooked for you option. We didn’t rate the Italian at all, the Alma was a lovely setting and the menu varied, but again mostly arrived tepid. The Japanese restaurant was better but fairly expensive and the seafood overcooked. Entertainment was varied and enthusiastic but the stand out was the sunset saxophone and violin. Make sure you get an entertainment programme - it took me 4 goes but there is a lot happening and worth knowing in advance. The pools were all seawater of varying depths and great infinity views of the sea. There are steps and a ladder so you can swim/snorkel in the sea. Not a lot of sea life to see there unless a scuba diver, (there’s a dive school in situ) but we saw a shark on day 1 and a turtle visits below the Alma most nights around 10pm. Most alcohol is available but the white wine was awful and the red not much better. We resorted to cocktails or the just drinkable ‘champagne’. The beer was lager and fine. For around £20 a bottle you can buy the good stuff wine wise. Even though it’s all inclusive, US dollars are needed to rent a safe, deposit on the pool towel cards, and trips. Overall we had a great time at the hotel and the DR in general.
